Electrical Equipment

Electrical appliances are classified into various groups like major appliances, small appliances, microcontroller, and power tools. They are described as below:

1. Major appliance

   It is also known as Domestic Appliance. A major appliance is a large machine or equipment in a domestic device that is used for housekeeping works like washing, food preservation, cleaning, cooking etc. Appliance cannot be called as plumbing fixture as it works only with the help of electricity or fuel.

   

   These appliances are bigger in size. Moving of these appliances is not easy because of their size. It is fixed in a place so that it does not require to be moved or change the place. Appliances such as refrigerators, coolers, vacuum cleaners, oven, and washing machine are some of the examples of major appliances. The place where it should be kept in the apartment is generally fixed. Special electrical connections, ventilation arrangements and connection to gas supplies must be done in order to operate them.

   In the past, major appliances were made up of white steel sheets. But nowadays, enamel-coated steel sheets are used to make the appliances look more standard and appealing. Energy efficiency improvements are done to make the major appliances more efficient and reliable. This is done by inserting improved control systems and bit changes in the construction are required.

2. Small appliances

   

   These are also called small domestic appliance. Small appliances can be portable or semi-portable. Some are table-tops or counter-tops. These appliances help to accomplish household chores. Microwave, coffee makers, toasters, blenders, and juicers are some of the examples of small household appliances. These equipment don’t need big space like other major appliances like fridge and washing machine which can only be placed on the floor. These small appliances are handy and can be placed and cleaned anywhere.

3. Microcontroller

   Microcontroller refers to a single integrated circuit small computer. It is also called microcontroller unit. In modern terms, it refers to a chip or system. A microcontroller unit consists of one or more processor cores. It also contains inbuilt memory and input or output programs. Automatically controllable products such as automobile engines, medical devices, toys, remote controls use microcontrollers.

4. Power tool

   

   Power tools are used in construction, in the garden, in the industry and for household works too. Common types of power tools use compressed air and electric motors.
